Comparison of topical acyclovir and penciclovir in recurrent herpes labialis treatment

Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the effects acyclovir and penciclovir creams in treatment recurrent herpes labialis. 
 Materials Methods: Seventy patients with pre-diagnosed labialis lesions were enrolled study. Diagnosis was confirmed HSV-1 IgM antibody test. Patients separated under 2 groups as cream. Both agents applied until complete healing seen. Burning, itching bleeding scores; time erythema, vesicles, ulceration, crusting crust loss recorded. Pain values recorded using a visual analog scale (VAS) DASS-21 used measure emotional state related depression, anxiety stress. Results: level group significantly lower than 3rd day, though no difference following days. scores revealed signs depression on 62.8% patients, 34.2% stress 41.4% moderate or higher levels. While pain high severity, it observed that low intensity.
 Conclusion: Although not possible cure completely, any methods drugs shorten lesion reduce discomfort gains importance. Our showed superior reducing pain.
